Search Somerset County Court Records
The central online access point is Maryland Judiciary Case Search / Case Search & Record Portal. It covers public case-summary information from Maryland District Court, Circuit Court, and appellate courts, including Somerset County matters when the case and the party identity are not protected. Case Search is not the full courthouse file. The Maryland legal-help materials explain that the portal gives a summary, while the complete case record is viewed at the courthouse where the matter was heard.
For Somerset County court records, start with the court level. Circuit Court records are tied to the Clerk of the Circuit Court in Princess Anne. District Court records include traffic, landlord-tenant, replevin, misdemeanors, certain felonies, and civil claims within District Court limits. Estate records use the Register of Wills estate search, and land records use land-record channels rather than Case Search. If the online result is broad, use county, court, case type, and filing-date filters before assuming no record exists.

- Search by full case number when known, or use party name fields with Somerset County selected.

Somerset County Court Records Fields

Somerset County court records in public online systems are case summaries. They usually begin with identifiers, then show parties and docket history when public. Civil records may show complaints, petitions, motions, orders, judgments, writs, garnishments, foreclosures, and appeals. Criminal and traffic records may show charges, statutes or code references, hearing dates, pleas, dispositions, fines, court costs, probation, and bond details if those entries are part of the public docket.

Somerset County Court Record Types
The Clerk of the Circuit Court keeps many Circuit Court files and permanent records. Civil Circuit Court records include agency judicial reviews, District Court appeals, domestic relations, foreclosures, mechanics liens, injunctions, guardianships, name changes, motor torts, and other torts. Family records such as divorce, custody, support, visitation, paternity, and guardianship are Circuit Court matters, but financial details and child-related information may be restricted.
Criminal Circuit Court files include felony and certain misdemeanor charges filed by the grand jury or State's Attorney, District Court appeals, and jury-trial requests. District Court produces many traffic, misdemeanor, landlord-tenant, replevin, and smaller civil records. Juvenile and adoption records are not ordinary public records. Estate records belong to Orphans' Court and the Register of Wills. Land records, plats, liens, judgments, marriage licenses, and notary records are held or indexed through Clerk-related channels.

Complete Somerset County Court Files
A full case file is not the same as a Case Search summary. Somerset County Court Copy Fees
Somerset County court record copies use the local fee schedules shown in the research. The Civil Department lists a plain copy fee of $0.50 per page and a certification fee of $5 plus copy fees. Civil filing charges are different from copy charges, but they matter when a reader is trying to understand the Clerk counter. A civil action is $165 without an attorney and $175 with an attorney. A transcript or audio issue is separate; Circuit audio recordings are available by written request for $25 per CD, payable to Somerset County Commissioners.

The judgment search is a side search for liens and judgments; it does not replace the Clerk's complete Circuit Court file or the District Court case record.
Restricted Somerset County Court Records
Maryland public access is broad, but not unlimited. General Provisions Section 4-201 says a custodian must allow inspection of public records at reasonable times unless a legal exception applies. Court records also follow Maryland Rules on access to judicial records, including Maryland Rule 16-901 and denial rules for protected case material.
Restricted Somerset County court records include juvenile court records, adoption files, sealed records, shielded records, expunged records, certain protective or peace order information, financial account data, Social Security numbers, minor identifying data, and victim or witness address details. Case Search may also remove some criminal charges from remote display after nolle prosequi, dismissal, acquittal or not-guilty findings, stet after three years, and certain pre-July 1, 2023 cannabis-only outcomes. That does not always mean the courthouse file never existed.
Somerset County Side Searches
Some Somerset County court records are not best found through a standard party-name case search. Land records are permanent Clerk records, with deeds, mortgages, leases, releases, land contracts, subdivisions, condominiums, and highway plats maintained through land-record channels. The Somerset Land Records Department has a public research room, charges copy fees, and notes that records date back to 1665. Many land records are available through MDLandRec.
Probate records use the Register of Wills Estate Search. Estate Search can show decedent name, estate number, date of death, filing date, personal representative, attorney, county, estate type, estate status, alias, and docket history. Judgment and lien records use the Maryland Judiciary judgment portal. These side searches are useful when the record type is real property, a lien, a judgment, or an estate rather than a civil complaint or criminal case.
